A traditional take on upholstery

My client wanted their much-loved carved arm chair brought back to life using traditional methods and materials.  So it was a great pleasure to work on the piece which included refreshing and reviving the beautiful carved wooden frame.

Traditional techniques use skills developed in the 1700s coupled with materials used for a century or more.  The pictures show the finished piece together with some shots of the work in progress including coir stuffing of the seat and hair-mix stuffing of the inside back.

The result: traditional comfort, locally restored, proudly refurbished

Stylish and practical sofa bed box

My client had created a beautiful chest to contain a sofa bed mechanism and wanted a stylish and comfortable finish for the piece.  I was delighted to upholster the unit in soft, luxurious foam covered in Moon fabric’s plaid in 100% wool.  It now takes pride of place in my client’s lounge providing a useful and practical footstool/table whilst providing the bonus of extra bedding when required.

Sofa, so good

Just completed, a well-loved two seater sofa which had been fitted with loose covers has been transformed by upholstering in Moon Fabric’s rich ‘Earth Raspberry’ wooden cloth.  Before and after pictures show the change.  By tightly fitting the frame covering whilst retaining a looser feel for the cushion covers, the piece retains its cosy feel whilst presenting a bright and stylish new look.

We have it all sewn up

An interesting project completed this week, with the delivery of a refurbished vintage sewing box.  My customer wanted a fresh new look for her much-loved sewing box, so having provided her own material, she was delighted with the results.

A bright and colourful tartan outer fabric is complemented by a plush inner velvet.

The project was fun to work on and just shows that a tired-looking piece can be turned into a much-loved and practical asset.
